We Need You – Volunteers Wanted!

Radio Lonsdale is always looking for new volunteers and we are currently seeking new presenters, rugby league commentators & summarisers and ward visitors to replace those who have sadly, from our point of view, left for University.  However, if you have another talent or interest, we would also wish to hear from you!

If you’re interested either complete the form via our ‘Get Involved / Become a Member‘ menus at the top of the page, email us at asm@radio-lonsdale.co.uk or leave a message on our answering system on 01229 877877.

In return for an hour or two’s commitment each week we offer you an enjoyable hobby working alongside some great friends, the chance to benefit those using our wonderful NHS hospital and, if you wish, training on some of the most up to date software and audio kit in the broadcasting industry.

Here’s a little bit of info about the positions that we are currently offering:

Radio Presenter:

Researches his or her own show before presenting at the allocated time each week, with very few of the constraints of the BBC or Commercial Stations.  Within reason the choice of show content is yours but we have recently highlighted a real need for classical music and country & western shows.  Training is provided for our audio mixers, microphones, all audio inputs and telephony systems.  We use a bang up to date Myriad v.4 play out software system which contains thousands of music tracks and is also used to play automatically when there are no presenters available.

Rugby League / Sports Commentator:

Presents live rugby league from Barrow Raiders’ Craven Park or football from Barrow AFC’s Holker Street ground and also provides research material for their allotted games.  If you don’t fancy the lead post, why not become a match summariser?  A basic knowledge of either game along with a real passion for the sport is all that is required! No experience necessary as training is provided.

Ward Visitor:

You only need to commit to ONE hour per week!  Visits the wards around Furness General Hospital to register patients on the Hospedia entertainment systems and takes requests for our very popular Music Request Shows, currently on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.  No experience necessary.  Training and DBS checks are provided.  This is one of the most enjoyable and important tasks which we perform!

We look forward to meeting you!
