Radio Lonsdale celebrated the 50th Anniversary as “Radio Lonsdale” on Tuesday 22nd December 2015.
The voluntary radio station for Furness General Hospital officially adopted the name “Radio Lonsdale” on 22nd December 1965 and what a bash we lined up for our patients, staff and visitors on the day.
Past Radio Lonsdale presenters travelled from all over the UK to present two hour live slots between 10.00am and 10.00pm!
The Bay’s Darren Milby, ex BBC Radio Cumbria Sport’s voice of Barrow AFC Ron Duxbury, Stoke University’s Station Manager & Presenter Luke Plevin with Sky & Channel 5 News Anchor Stephen Dixon were joined by a number of other past Radio Lonsdale favourites Dave Chubb, Lottie Howsley, Bill Clark, James Edmond, Becky Took and Pete Last for a full twelve hours of celebration and great music.
Current presenter Dave Concannon took a break from playing his usual rubbish from the contemporary scene as he looked back at some classic number 1’s from 1965!
All for one magical day only!
The public, staff and patients all came to have a look at the studios and to learn about the massive strides that Radio Lonsdale has made in recent years.
Our raffle and ‘Guess the Teddy’ game raised over £240 on the day but the intention was to have fun, celebrate our 50 years and to welcome some old friends back to Radio Lonsdale.
